Central Bank lending survey

The Central Bank conducts quarterly lending surveys among the four commercial banks. In the surveys, the banks are asked for their assessment of developments in credit supply and demand; the factors that, in their opinion, had a decisive impact on supply in the past three months; and their expectations for the coming six months. The results of the most recent survey, conducted during the period 1 July-14 August 2023, are based on the average of the commercial banks’ responses.

Working Paper no. 91: Participation in supplementary pension savings in Iceland

The Central Bank of Iceland has published the working paper “Participation in supplementary pension savings in Iceland” by Ásgeir Daníelsson, Rannveig Sigurdardóttir, and Svava J. Haraldsdóttir. Ásgeir Daníelsson is former Head of Research and Forecasting in the Bank’s Economics and Monetary Policy department, Rannveig Sigurdardóttir is Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, and Svava J. Haraldsdóttir is an economist in the Economics and Monetary Policy department.

Statement of the Monetary Policy Committee 23 August 2023

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Iceland has decided to raise the Bank’s interest rates by 0.5 percentage points. The Bank’s key interest rate – the rate on seven-day term deposits – will therefore be 9.25%.

A statement of the Monetary Policy Committee was published on the Central Bank of Iceland website at 08:30 hrs. today, 23 August 2023. The Bank’s Monetary Bulletin was published at 08:35 hrs. At 9:30 hrs., a webcast with a press conference on the statement and the contents of the Monetary Bulletin will be held.
