The Central Bank of Iceland’s Economic Indicators report for September 2019 has been released and can be found here on the Bank’s website. The publication contains information on developments in prices, output, external trade, the labour market, public sector finances, asset markets, and the financial market. The information is published in chart form, and underlying data can be called up in spreadsheet format.

Households’ and businesses’ inflation expectations

People’s expectations of future developments in goods and services prices have a strong impact on how inflation develops, partly because expectations about price developments affect both workers’ wage demands and firms’ decisions on how to price their goods and services. For this reason, the Central Bank closely monitors households’ and businesses’ expectations about inflation. It is important that inflation expectations (particularly long-term expectations) be consistent with the Bank’s inflation target.

Seminar: Exchange rates, domestic credit and macroprudential policy

A seminar about Exchange rates, domestic credit and macroprudential policy was held at the Central Bank of Iceland 7 October. Speaker: Thorvardur Tjorvi Olafsson, Senior Financial Sector Expert at the IMF, PhD. The presentation is based on a working paper by Dr. Olafsson, Erlend Walter Nier and Yuan Gao Rollinson which will be published by the IMF.

MPC Meeting with a Parliamentary committee

The Act on the Central Bank of Iceland stipulates that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Iceland shall submit to Parliament (Althingi) a report on its activities twice a year and that the contents of the report shall be discussed in the Parliamentary committee of the Speaker’s choosing. The eighteenth meeting was held on 19 September 2019. Attending the meeting were Governor Ásgeir Jónsson, Chair of the MPC and Gylfi Zoëga, professor at the University of Iceland and MPC member.
