Arnór Sighvatsson appointed acting Deputy Governor for Financial Stability

The Prime Minister has appointed Arnór Sighvatsson to serve as acting Deputy Governor for Financial Stability from 1 May 2024 until a permanent appointment has been made.

Arnór Sighvatsson has a doctoral degree in Economics. He was Chief Economist at the Central Bank from 2004 until 2009 and Deputy Governor from 2009 until 2018. During his tenure as Deputy Governor, he served on the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee. From 2011 until 2019 he sat on the board of the Financial Supervisory Authority. Arnór worked for the Nordic-Baltic Office of the International Monetary Fund from 1993 to 1995. In his new capacity as acting Deputy Governor for Financial Stability, Arnór will serve on the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee, Financial Stability Committee, and Financial Supervision Committee.

Gunnar Jakobsson, who has held the position of Deputy Governor for Financial Stability since 1 March 2020, has requested to leave the Bank’s employ and will soon begin a new position abroad.

The position of Deputy Governor for Financial Stability has been advertised. The Prime Minister appoints a candidate for a term of five years based on the findings of a legally mandated adjudication committee and upon nomination by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs.
