New 10,000 kr. banknote in circulation
The Central Bank of Iceland is launching Iceland’s new 10,000 kr. banknote today, Thursday 24 October 2013. The purpose of the issue is to facilitate and streamline payment intermediation in Iceland, in part by reducing the number of banknotes in circulation. At the end of September, there were 13.9 million banknotes in circulation, including 7.1 million 5,000 kr. notes.

Statement
Due to media coverage in recent days and weeks concerning the Central Bank and the Government’s alleged demands in connection with the settlement of the Glitnir and Kaupthing estates, the Central Bank wishes to emphasise that no such demands have been put forward by the Bank.

The Central Bank of Iceland is offering to purchase euros in exchange for Icelandic krónur for long-term investment in the Icelandic economy, or in exchange for payment in Treasury bond series RIKS 33 0321.
