Tweets from the Central Bank – interest rate decision tomorrow

Tomorrow, 10 February 2016, the Central Bank of Iceland will formally begin using Twitter. The first tweets will announce the first Central Bank interest rate decision of the year and the publication of Monetary Bulletin 2016/1. Those subscribed to Central Bank tweets will receive up-to-the-minute news on interest rate decisions, the contents of the Bank’s publications, and information on other topics relating to the Bank’s activities. A group of Twitter users has already subscribed to the Bank’s tweets. Those wishing to receive tweets from the Central Bank must have an active Twitter account, where they can sign up at @sedlabanki_is (Icelandic) or @centralbank_is (English).

The Monetary Policy Committee’s interest rate decision will be published on the Bank’s website and via press release at 8:55 hrs. tomorrow morning, and Monetary Bulletin 2016/1 will be published on the Bank’s website at 9:00 hrs. An hour later, at 10:00 hrs., the Bank will air a webcast explaining the rationale for the interest rate decision and presenting the contents of Monetary Bulletin. Deputy Governor Arnór Sighvatsson and Chief Economist Þórarinn G. Pétursson, both of them members of the Monetary Policy Committee, will explain the interest rate decision and the contents of the publication. Twitter users who have subscribed to Central Bank tweets will receive notifications of current and upcoming events and short summaries from Monetary Bulletin.
