Letter of condolence upon the death of the Governor of the National Bank of Poland

Today Central Bank of Iceland Governor Már Guðmundsson sent a letter to Piotr Wiesiolek, acting Governor of the National Bank of Poland, offering his condolences upon the death of Slawomir Stanislaw Skrzypek, Governor of the National Bank of Poland, in this morning’s tragic air accident in Russia.

The letter touched on the deepening co-operation between the central banks of Iceland and Poland in recent years and on the development of personal ties stemming in part from the short visit paid by Slawomir and his wife to Iceland in the summer of 2008. Már and Slawomir became acquainted during Már’s tenure with the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland and became closer colleagues after Már assumed the governorship of the Central Bank of Iceland. In closing his letter, Már expressed the hope that the two countries would honour Slawomir’s memory by continuing to develop the friendly and co-operative relationship between the Central Bank of Iceland and the National Bank of Poland.
