Education:

Studies in Economics and Mathematics at the University of Göteborg,
1976-1977.
BA with Honours in Economics from the University of Essex, England, 1979.
M-phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, England, 1980.


Professional experience:

Economist with the Central Bank of Iceland from 1980.
Economic advisor to the Minister of Finance, 1988-1991.
Head of the Economics Department of the Central Bank of Iceland, 1991-1994.
Chief Economist and Director of Economics Department of the Central Bank of Iceland, 1994-2004.
Advisor on behalf of the International Monetary Fund to the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, 1998-1999.
Participation in miscellaneous committees and boards of directors.
Deputy Head of the Monetary and Economic Department of the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland (BIS). Member of the bank’s senior management.
Már has written a number of papers and articles on monetary and exchange rate affairs and related topics.
